GOLLUM - MORE THAN JUST A CAT

It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the death of our much lovedsanctuary cat, Gollum. He unfortunately was struck by a vehicle and died from his injuries a short time later in the vets. To say we are totally devastated is an understatement.

Gollum was a popular resident at the sanctuary and made it his business to supervise all the volunteer's day to day activities. A larger than life character who was well-known for his mischievous personality and wicked sense of humour. He commanded respect and would reinforce that by delivering an appropriately timed 'bite' to anyone who didn’t play by his rules!

He came to us over 10 yrs ago from Cats Protection as they felt he would be happier living in a free and open environment that would enable him to live without boundaries. He often hitched a lift in a passing wheel barrow or enjoyed a lazy afternoon snooze in the hay barn. Gollum was a comedian – he famously stole a pack of fairy cakes during one of our Open Days, proudly sauntering off with them in his mouth – no one dared to try and retrieve them!

Moments like that earned him the legendary status of ‘Top Cat’ at the sanctuary, and his loss will leave a massive hole for anyone who had the pleasure of knowing this truly unique and special boy. We will never forget him.
